## How a match works

1. **Open a room.** Enter a name and create a room. Give it a password if you only want a friend to join, then share the room code. Open rooms also show up in the lobby list.
2. **Pick a champion.** Both players choose one of six champions and press Ready. Each has its own HP, Attack, element and three skills.
3. **Take turns matching gems.** On your turn, swap two neighbouring gems to make a line of 3 or more. A line of 4+ gives you another turn, but a swap that makes no line costs you 5 HP and the turn. You have 20 seconds per turn, and spending energy on a skill can replace a swap.
4. **Knock them out.** Bring the other champion to 0 HP to win. If 100 turns pass, the higher HP percentage wins, then the most gold.

## Gems

- **Sword**: Deals 1× your champion's Attack as damage.
- **Fire Sword**: Deals 2× Attack damage and blows up the 8 gems around it.
- **Heart**: Heals you for 3 HP.
- **Mana Crystal**: Gives 6 energy for skills (up to 100).
- **Gold**: Adds 10 gold, which breaks ties at the turn limit.
- **Spellbook**: Adds 5 experience.
- **Food**: Restores 3 stamina (up to 20). Stamina drops by 1 each turn; at 0 you lose 5 HP a turn.

## Elements

Fire beats Thunder, Thunder beats Water, Water beats Fire. With the advantage your damage is 25% higher; against it, 20% lower.

## Champions and skills

Skills cost energy (maximum 100). The third skill of each champion is its ultimate.

- **Kael, The Ember Lion**: Fire element, 110 HP, 4 Attack.
  - Flame Claw (30 energy): Deal 15 damage.
  - Wildfire (50 energy): Turn 5 random non-sword icons into Fire Swords. Your turn does not end.
  - Inferno Roar (100 energy): Deal 40 damage.
- **Pyra, The Flame Archer**: Fire element, 95 HP, 4 Attack.
  - Fire Arrow (25 energy): Deal 12 damage.
  - Scorched Earth (45 energy): Deal 8 damage and burn for 4 damage at the start of the opponent's next 3 turns.
  - Meteor Rain (90 energy): Deal 35 damage.
- **Marin, The Tide Guardian**: Water element, 120 HP, 3 Attack.
  - Rising Tide (30 energy): Heal 15 HP.
  - Water Shield (40 energy): Absorb the next 20 damage.
  - Tidal Surge (100 energy): Deal 25 damage and heal 25 HP.
- **Mira, The Frost Mystic**: Water element, 105 HP, 3 Attack.
  - Mana Siphon (35 energy): Take up to 25 energy from the opponent.
  - Frost Bind (60 energy): The opponent loses their next turn.
  - Frozen Torrent (100 energy): Deal 30 damage. The opponent loses their next turn.
- **Volt, The Storm Breaker**: Thunder element, 100 HP, 4 Attack.
  - Thunder Strike (30 energy): Deal 14 damage.
  - Chain Lightning (50 energy): Clear every Sword and Fire Sword on the board as if you matched them.
  - Skyfall Bolt (100 energy): Deal 45 damage.
- **Zephyr, The Wind Rider**: Thunder element, 100 HP, 3 Attack.
  - Tailwind (40 energy): Take another turn right after this one.
  - Lightning Net (50 energy): Deal 10 damage and remove 20 energy from the opponent.
  - Eye of the Storm (100 energy): Deal 25 damage. The opponent loses their next turn.

### Is Diamond Battle free?

Yes. It is free to play in any modern browser, with no download, no account and no ads.

### How many players does it need?

Two. Every match is a live one-on-one duel between two people, each in their own browser tab or device. There is no computer opponent.

### How do I play with a friend?

Create a room, optionally set a password, and send your friend the room code. They enter the code (or pick the room from the lobby list), you both choose a champion and press Ready.

### Does it work on phones?

Yes. Swipe or tap two neighbouring gems to swap them. The layout fits phones, tablets and desktop screens.

### What happens if I lose connection?

Your seat is held for 30 seconds. Reload the page within that time and you return to the same match with the same board.

### How is Diamond Battle different from other match-3 games?

Both players share one board, so every match you make also changes what your opponent can do next. Gems are attacks, healing and resources rather than points, and champion skills add a layer of strategy.

### Which champion is strongest?

None is strictly better. Elements form a cycle: Fire beats Thunder, Thunder beats Water, Water beats Fire. With the advantage your damage is 25% higher; against it, 20% lower. Tanky champions have more HP but less Attack.
